"Christmas soap that smells good enough to eat"
Lush Cosmetics is a uk-based company who specialise in handcrafted cosmetics with minimal preservatives. They have a large range of soaps, solid bubble bars, bath bombs, lotions, haircare and most recently, makeup.
On occasions such as Christmas, Halloween, Valentines and Easter, Lush bring out a special limited-edition selection of products. This is good and bad for several reasons. It’s good, because fans of LUSH get to try out new, exciting products- but bad because once the holiday season is over, the products are no longer sold until the next occasion,
There are sometimes some brand new items, and Yog Nog is one of them.
Yog Nog is a delicious-smelling soap, and is available in Lush as one big wheel of soap. When you buy a piece, the shop assistant will cut off a piece, weigh it, and your price will depend on how much you want to purchase. It is pretty much like the cheese counter system. After you have paid for your piece of soap, they will wrap it up in greaseproof paper with a sticky label.
As a whole wheel of soap, yog nog is a beige coloured, creamy soap with patterns engraved on the top and cocoa powder dusted over it. It isn’t the brightest soap in the shop, but it looks almost edible, and smells amazing.
When your slice is cut, it can be any shape (depending on how the sales assistant has sliced it), and almost looks like a slice of tiramisu.
The smell is pretty much what I’d describe Christmas as; a warm, creamy scent of spicy cinnamon and clove and a heavy, bittersweet richness from the cocoa dusting too. Under the heat of the water when being used, the smell comes out even more.
Yog Nog lathers well and provides a creamy, thick foam to wash with and is ideal as a body soap as well as a hand soap. It cleanses well but doesn’t dry out the skin at all. The sweet and spicy scent lingers on your skin afterwards, which is nice.
This is a creamy-textured soap, and if left under the water it will melt and dissolve very quickly. My best tip for this is don’t handle it under the tap or the shower head for too long, and when you are finished, pat it dry and leave it in a cool, dry place.
Yog Nog costs £3.65 per 100g slice. It is expensive, but for a treat it’s okay. It is available in Lush in the boxing day sale for half price, so if you want to stock up, after Christmas is a good time.
This soap is vegan, and the ingredients are as follows.
Quantitative Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerine, Rapeseed Oil and Coconut Oil, Sorbitol, Soya yoghurt, Perfume, Clove Bud Oil, Ylang Ylang Oil, Gardenia Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Chloride, EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Sodium Hydroxide, Eugenol, Linalool, Cocoa Powder, Nutmeg powder.I just hope Lush bring Yog Nog back this Christmas, as although it wasn’t my favourite in the 2014 Christmas range, it is something I would pick up again.
